March 9, Sunday: finally some downhill

Almost no climbing today. Rode down several thousand feet onto the flats of the Yuha desert and then into the Imperial Valley (agriculture) of California. Saw lots of sand, herds of sheep, hay bales, horses, solar farms, the border patrol people, and some pretty bumpy roads. Weather was sunny and hot with a headwind in some places, but nowhere near as bad as yesterday.  Despite flat tires, falls, bike problems, this group of women is very resilient, positive, and determined. It is an absolute pleasure to be with them.  On the map below are circled the places we stay on our trip through California. We are now at the fourth bubble from the left in Brawley, California, which is below sea level as you can see from the sugar plant silo in the last picture.  Vanilla soy milk is a great recovery drink, as Is Mission St., India pale ale.

  1. Looks like a long day is coming up. Dennis is on his Google map following your trail, Old Highway 80? How is the food? Keep up the good work, or should I say fun!
