My late start was just perfect. Rode around Fort Clark a bit more, came upon deer and a wild turkey on the golf course.
.
Then crossed this river more than once, just for good measure on my way out of Fort Clark.
Today's ride was 49 miles to Campwood Texas, crossing still desert-like land but with increasing numbers of trees, grass, and animals. And fields with a carpet of purple flowers. They hunt whitetail deer here from little houses on stilts out where deer apparently congregate. Aw, don't shoot Bambi...
And lest you think that the days of riding on rough chip seal roads are over, NOT. Here are piles of stones by the roadside anxiously waiting to be put to use making cyclists soooo happy.
It was cloudy most of the day, but not rainy. Good thing, because instead of building bridges on the secondary roads, the county lets them flood at the low points!
We can tell that the air is more humid. The paper for the daily cue sheet is heavier, not crisply fragile the way it was in 11% humidity in Arizona.
And just in case you are in the market for some property in the area:
Tomorrow we are in hill country, I can tell because the planned mileage is low (39). (I wrongly called some mountains in West Texas "hill country" in an earlier post.)
