39 miles from Campwood to Vanderpool, TX, a scenic hilly ride when the sun is out. Here the visibility was less than a tenth of mile. The weather started out as a fine mist and by the end of the ride was rain.
However, yours truly was prepared, but not necessarily fashionable. My rain hat slipped on over my helmet, and my rain jacket actually did its job and repelled the water! Lots of wiping drops off my glasses though.
Stopped for lunch at a biker bar and restaurant where I was welcomed warmly and got a great sandwich.
Arrived at Foxfire Cabins mid afternoon where R&R was definitely on the schedule.
Our dinner this evening was not especially satisfying so two of us hopped on our bikes and rode a few miles to the nearest market - which had just closed. I said let's go around back, maybe the cook has some scraps for us. At which point one of the guys sitting out front identified himself as the owner and reopened the market just for us two starving cyclists. Another example of such kindness we have found on this trip.
Hey Lynn, I will be on the Southern Tier next year and am enjoying reading your blog...it's almost like being there! A tough ride by all accounts, but such beautiful scenery captured well in your photos. keep smiling! Lea Adams from Sydney Australia
