April 18, Friday, Day 43: Mississippi!

60 miles today from Bogalusa Louisiana to Wiggins Mississippi.  The temperature was about the same as the mileage, cloudy, sprinkling, a bit windy and generally raw. Nevertheless, it was a really nice ride on a lot of back roads.  No dogs, but some redneck with a shotgun firing warning shots at my roommate and two other riders who stopped near the end of his long driveway to put on their jackets.  Probably related to the other idiots with confederate flags displayed in this, ahem, highly integrated area.

Above is the map of the lower part of Mississippi. Today's ride was from the little black dot just to the left of the Pearl River border between Louisiana and Mississippi over to the little black dot dead center of Mississippi.  Tomorrow we go to the little circle at the far right of Mississippi in Pascagoula.

The Pearl River was 4 feet over flood stage and we rode next to the flooding for at least 2 miles.  Glad we didn't get caught in that rainstorm!

Shetland ponies were the animal attraction for the day.

This evening, not only do we have our Stateline Crossing margarita party, we are celebrating our guide Carol's birthday! Sheila, the poet laureate, memorialized Carol's birthday.  Then we all surprised her by wearing some hilarious masks.

Enough?  Okay.  See you tomorrow.
